Having a good knowledge of a foreign language does not mean being able to translate a text in that language.
Just as you wouldn't ask an economics student to draw up your balance sheet, you shouldn't let someone unqualified loose on translating your company brochure, website or other important messages you want to communicate.

Our translations are all done by qualified professionals and then proof-read by a second translator, a crucial operation not just for picking up the inevitable typos, but to check that the message has been communicated in full and is appropriate for the end-reader.

Here are just a few good reasons:

  • Doing business overseas means dealing not just with a foreign language, but also with a foreign culture. The message you have worked so hard on for your Italian target market is unlikely to be successful if recycled in the same form for a foreign audience, given the inevitable linguistic and cultural differences.
  • Saying something in a foreign language is not the same as saying it in your own. The golden rule for translators is that they ALWAYS work into their native language. Even if you often use another language at work, in the majority of cases the things you write just "sound foreign".
  • Translation is not an exercise in mass-production and one size doesn't fit all! While dictionaries and glossaries are useful working tools, it is the translator's writing talent and creativity that wins the day.
INTRODUCING MYSELF

My name is Caterina Bedon and it has always been my dream to be a translator.

I am a graduate of Italy's number one school of translation and interpreting in Forlì, part of the University of Bologna, and I have gained a great deal of translation experience, including working for the EU Commission in Brussels.
I am a member of the AITI (the Italian association of interpreters and translators) and I specialise in financial and legal texts, EU documents and in the eyewear and cosmetics sectors.

I believe deeply in the value of this profession and in the responsibility I bear for reworking the words of my customers, always handling them with care.

As well as a real passion for words, translation demands a lively curiosity as we never stop learning. Every single job brings something new to research, taking us on yet another voyage of discovery.
